HOLLY HUNT to debut designer collections for London Design Festival 2021

The exhibition will include the materials-driven work by the London-based design duo, McCollin Bryan

September 2021 - Beginning 18th September 2021, luxury furniture and furnishings brand HOLLY HUNT will exhibit its latest designer collections for the first time at its newly re-styled Mayfair showroom, spanning furniture, lighting, textiles and wallcoverings. This includes a series of custom pieces from British design studio McCollin Bryan, whose sculptural work focusses on materiality and the natural state.

Highlights from the new pieces by McCollin Bryan include:

  • The Lens Table, one of McCollin Bryan’s most popular products, will be on view in a large format in acid lemon, sapphire, dark amber and clear shades, featuring a highly polished resin top backed with a tinted mirror. It plays with light and illusion, giving off a mystifying, unexpected reflection.
  • The Coffee Bean Table is characterised by its soft, curvaceous silhouette that has an appealing organic quality. Each piece is handmade in scagliola plaster in McCollin Bryan's London studio using a variation on an 18th century plaster casting technique.
  • The final works will be the Aurora Screens and Wall Compositions. Inspired by the Northern lights and their mysterious, undulating movement of light and reflection, the screens feature subtle hues of customisable coloured resin, set into a brass or black frame.
“Our work is first and foremost about materiality - harnessing the intrinsic beauty of a piece by taking into consideration its natural state and using that to inform the design," says Maureen Bryan, Co-Founder of McCollin Bryan. "Much of our work is sculptural in nature but it's also important that it remains highly functional. We feel our pieces add nice pops of colour to the Holly Hunt showroom while adding something a bit unexpected to the space."

In addition, HOLLY HUNT will display new pieces from its unrivalled interiors offering, celebrating the best of international design and artistry with masterful craftsmanship and highest quality of materials. The collections are a blend of works designed by HOLLY HUNT’s own studio, and from coveted designers such as Vladimir Kagan and artisan duo Assemblage. The hero works featured will include:

  • The Sumo Sofa and Chair, whose rich curves create a sumptuous, cocooning atmosphere, available in a series of indulgent fabrics that add to this cosy and comforting style
  • Assemblage’s handmade and bespoke Wallpaper Collection is crafted with materials such as Venetian plaster, gold leaf, shell and beeswax
  • The Wysiwyg chair by Vladimir Kagan is far from a straightforward tub-style chair, whose cut-out silhouette evokes an energetic depth for a playful presence
  • Lastly, the Shifty Side Table is composed of a staggered stack of superbly crafted wood volumes, bringing solid modernism to any living space and celebrating the natural textures and grains of oak, walnut and ash
“We’re thrilled to show the exquisite work of McCollin Bryan for London Design Festival,” says Jo Annah Kornak, SVP and Executive Creative Director of HOLLY HUNT. “Their designs have been an integral part of the HOLLY HUNT offering for many years and during this year’s festival, we felt it was important to highlight some of the most exciting work coming out of the city today. Each piece demonstrates a strong dedication to materiality and functionality and reflects the calibre of craftsmanship being created in this vibrant, global hub.”

About McCollin Bryan

www.mccollinbryan.com | @mccollinbryan

Don McCollin and Maureen Bryan set up McCollin Bryan in 1998. The fusion of their backgrounds in textiles (McCollin at the Royal College of Art) and ceramics (Bryan at Middlesex Polytechnic) has led to a distinctive portfolio of designs.

In their designs of furniture and objects, their approach is strongly driven by the materials they work with and a mutual need to be active in the craft of making.

Key to their working practice is the process of experimentation and the development of visual concepts. While McCollin explores surface textures and patterns, Bryan designs forms that have sculptural impact. They are both inspired to exploit the qualities of the materials they use in order to create pieces that will surprise and intrigue the viewer.
